ISO 9001:2015 certified (SGS) Welders qualified to DVS 2205 and 2207 Australian family owned since 1971

Engineer-specified HDPE, polypropylene and PVDF tanks for water treatment, mining, food processing, and energy projects. Built to AS/NZS 4766 and DVS 2205 (tank design) and DVS 2207 (welding). ISO 9001 certified by SGS since 2008.

Industrial Plastics has fabricated custom plastic tanks at our Hemmant, Brisbane workshop since 1971. We weld, machine, and pressure-test tanks from 2,000 litres to 110,000 litres-plus in HDPE, polypropylene, PVC and PVDF for chemical storage, dosing, secondary containment, food contact and road transport.

Every weld is performed by DVS-qualified fabricators to the German DVS 2207 standard, significantly more stringent than AS/NZS minimum requirements, and inspected against our ISO 9001:2015 quality system, certified by SGS. Drawings, weld records, and material certificates are issued with every job.

AS/NZS 4766Polyethylene storage tanks for water and chemicals, design, construction, testing.
AS/NZS 4020Products in contact with drinking water, long-term safety. Used on potable applications.
DVS 2207German plastic welding standard for thermoplastics, significantly more stringent than minimum AS/NZS welder qualification.
AS 1940Storage and handling of flammable and combustible liquids, informs bund design and venting.
FSANZ Standard 1.4.3Articles and materials in contact with food. Used on food-processing tanks for Goodman Fielder, Schweppes and Warrnambool Cheese & Butter.
ISO 9001:2015Quality management system. Certified by SGS since 2008. Every tank is subject to documented inspection and weld-record sign-off.

Material selection

Material choice is a process-engineering decision driven by chemical, temperature, pressure, UV exposure and food-contact requirements. Our technical sales team will spec the right material for your duty, or review a specification you’ve already drafted.

HDPE (high-density polyethylene)

Workhorse for chemical storage and water. High chemical resistance, UV-stabilised grades available, service temperature -40 °C to +60 °C. Used for hypochlorite, alum, mining slurry, water and waste-water duties.

Polypropylene (PP-H, PP-B, PP copolymer)

Higher-temperature applications up to ~95 °C continuous. Excellent resistance to acids and alkalis. Standard choice for food-grade vessels, hot caustic, and chemical dosing where HDPE temperature is marginal.

PVDF (polyvinylidene fluoride)

Premium choice for aggressive chemicals, concentrated acids, hot bleach, ultrapure water. Higher cost; specified where HDPE/PP cannot meet duty.

PVC and CPVC

Used selectively for fittings, pipework transitions, and lower-temperature chemical service. Not our default for primary containment.

  • Rio Tinto, slurry and dosing tanks across multiple sites in the Pilbara. HDPE construction, integrated agitator mounts, abrasion-rated wear liners.
  • BHP, chemical storage upgrade at a Queensland processing facility. Replaced corroded steel tanks with HDPE within shutdown window.
  • Veolia, alum and hypochlorite dosing tanks for council water treatment plants across Queensland and NSW. AS/NZS 4020 compliant where in potable contact.
  • Aquatec Maxcon, packaged plant vessels supplied to OEM specification for water and waste-water plant builds.
  • Goodman Fielder, food-grade process tanks. FSANZ-compliant materials, mirror-finish welds, full CIP drainability.
  • Schweppes, beverage process vessels. Polished interior, sample ports, level instrumentation.
  • Warrnambool Cheese & Butter, process tanks. Food-contact PP construction with stainless instrumentation.
  • Origin Energy, caustic and ammonia storage. PP construction, secondary containment, full DVS-2207-certified weld records.

Sectors we serve

We fabricate for mining, water treatment, food processing, energy and galvanising and powder coating. Each industry page sets out the scope we deliver, the standards that apply and named project examples. For the full list, see Industries we serve.

How we work

The same five step process on every job, from first contact to delivered fabrication.

  1. Brief and specifications review. Send drawings, specs, an SDS or a written description of the duty. An engineer reviews every enquiry. Site visits by arrangement on confirmed projects.
  2. Engineering design. Material selection, wall thickness calculations, CAD fabrication drawings, weld plan and inspection and test plan. You sign off the design output before fabrication starts.
  3. Material procurement. Certified plastic stock, traceable to mill certificates where required.
  4. Fabrication. Brisbane workshop under ISO 9001 control. Welders qualified to DVS 2207, in-process inspection, pressure or leak testing as applicable.
  5. Delivery and documentation. Crated, palletised or oversize transport Australia-wide, with on-site fit-up where scope requires. Material certificates, weld records and test results are handed over with the job.

Why Industrial Plastics

Industrial Plastics has fabricated engineered thermoplastics from its Brisbane workshop since 1971. Every job runs under an SGS audited ISO 9001:2015 quality system, with welding by DVS 2207 qualified welders and per weld traceability, standards that sit above the AS/NZS minimums. Process and project engineers review every enquiry, and every delivery carries its documentation: material certificates, weld records, inspection and test plans, and as built drawings.

The workshop at Hemmant covers 2,000 square metres with hardstand for full volume hydro testing. Local, national and international shipping is available.
