Industrial Plastics fabricates custom plastic chemical tanks for water treatment, mining, food processing, energy and industrial chemical clients across Australia. Our welders are qualified to the German DVS 2207 standard, significantly more stringent than the minimum AS/NZS welder qualification, and every tank is fabricated under our ISO 9001:2015 quality system, certified by SGS. Material certificates, weld records and pressure test certificates are issued with every job.

Chemicals we routinely store
We fabricate chemical storage and dosing tanks for the full range of industrial reagents. Material is matched to each duty, with UV stabilised grades for outdoor installation.

- Sodium hypochlorite (bleach): PVC, with UV stabilised HDPE for milder duty, typically 5,000 to 30,000 L for water treatment dosing
- Hydrochloric acid (HCl): PP or PVDF, vented or sealed
- Sulphuric acid: PP or PVDF for concentrated, HDPE for dilute
- Caustic soda (NaOH): HDPE or PP, PP for hot duty
- Ferric chloride and ferric sulphate: HDPE for water treatment coagulant dosing
- Alum (aluminium sulphate): HDPE day tanks for council and industrial water plants
- Ammonia and ammoniated solutions: PP construction, full DVS 2207 weld records
- Glycol (HVAC and process cooling): HDPE expansion and storage tanks

Material selection
Chemical service usually rules in one of three thermoplastics, chosen by chemical, concentration and temperature.
HDPE (high density polyethylene)
Workhorse for chemical storage. Excellent resistance to most acids, alkalis and oxidisers at ambient temperature. Service range minus 40 °C to plus 60 °C. UV stabilised grades for outdoor installation.
Polypropylene (PP)
Specified where service temperature exceeds the comfort zone of HDPE or where chemical compatibility favours PP. Continuous service to around 95 °C. Standard choice for hot caustic, ammonia and many organic chemicals.
PVDF (polyvinylidene fluoride)
For aggressive chemicals where HDPE and PP cannot meet the duty, including concentrated acids, hot bleach and ultrapure water. Premium cost, specified by chemical and temperature.

Frequently asked questions
We select HDPE, polypropylene or PVDF by the chemical, its concentration and the service temperature. HDPE suits most acids and alkalis at ambient temperature, polypropylene handles hotter duty such as hot caustic and ammonia, and PVDF is specified for aggressive service such as concentrated acids and hot bleach.
