Industrial Plastics fabricates custom HDPE tanks (high density polyethylene, also specified as polyethylene, PE or PE100) from certified virgin sheet, butt and extrusion welded to DVS 2207 and designed to DVS 2205. These are not rotomoulded commodity tanks: fabrication delivers rectangular, conical, sloped base and open top formats, custom nozzle placement, and wall constructions that moulding cannot produce. Every tank is specified by our technical team against your chemical, temperature and installation envelope.

HDPE properties for tank duty

HDPE is the workhorse of fabricated plastic tanks. It combines a broad chemical resistance envelope with high impact strength, excellent weldability and proven long term creep behaviour, which is why DVS 2205 publishes full design curves for it. UV stabilised black PE100 is the standard specification for outdoor service in the Australian climate.

What HDPE tanks are used for

Most of the chemical storage we build is HDPE. Water treatment plants run it for sodium hypochlorite, alum and hydrochloric acid storage and dosing. Mining operations use it for reagent storage and hydrometallurgy duty. Food processors use FSANZ compliant grades for washdown and ingredient service, and councils and contractors specify it for effluent, stormwater detention and truck mounted water cartage.

Designed to DVS 2205, welded to DVS 2207

Every fabricated tank is designed to DVS 2205, the German engineering standard for thermoplastic tank design, with wall thickness calculated from the actual chemical, concentration, temperature and service life rather than a generic water rating. Welds are executed to DVS 2207 by qualified welders, with weld records, material certificates and drawings issued under our ISO 9001:2015 quality system certified by SGS.

Sizes and geometry

Fabrication frees the geometry. We build HDPE tanks from 2,000 litres to 110,000 litres plus, in rectangular, cylindrical, conical, sloped base and integrally stiffened forms, sized around your installation envelope rather than a mould catalogue. Open tops, baffles, dished ends, custom nozzle and manway placement, integrated bunds sized to 110 percent of primary volume, and double walled construction are all standard scope. Tanks are supplied with lifting points and holding down details designed for the installed location.

What is an HDPE tank?

A tank made from high density polyethylene. Ours are fabricated from certified virgin PE100 sheet, butt and extrusion welded to DVS 2207 and engineered to DVS 2205, rather than rotationally moulded. That construction allows rectangular, conical and open top geometries and engineered wall thickness matched to the duty.

How long does an HDPE tank last?

Fabricated HDPE tanks are designed on a 25 year basis using the DVS 2205 creep curves at 20 degrees C. Actual life depends on the chemical, concentration and temperature, which is why every tank is specified from the SDS rather than a generic water rating.

What are the disadvantages of HDPE tanks?

HDPE suits ambient temperature service; above about 60 degrees C continuous, polypropylene is the better selection, and strong oxidisers or hot concentrated acids call for PVDF. We confirm the right material for your duty, and say plainly when plastic is not the answer.

Are HDPE and polyethylene tanks the same thing?

Yes. Polyethylene, PE, PE100 and HDPE all describe the same material family. PE100 is the pressure rated resin classification we fabricate from.

How much does an HDPE tank cost?

What is the difference between a fabricated and a rotomoulded HDPE tank?

Rotomoulded tanks are moulded in fixed catalogue shapes and rated to AS/NZS 4766, typically for water.
