HDPE and polypropylene retrofit liners for galvanising dipping tanks, chemical-storage tanks and process vessels. ISO 9001 certified by SGS. DVS 2205 (tank design) and DVS 2207 (welding) welding. Brisbane workshop, since 1971.
Industrial Plastics fabricates and installs custom plastic tank liners for industrial clients across Australia. Our largest tank-lining customer base is the galvanising industry: HDPE and polypropylene liners protect dipping tanks from the highly corrosive zinc, hydrochloric-acid pickling and degreasing baths used in hot-dip galvanising. We also reline chemical-storage tanks, process vessels, bunds and pits across mining, water treatment, food processing and energy clients. Every weld is performed by DVS 2207-qualified fabricators, significantly more stringent than minimum AS/NZS welder qualification, and inspected against our ISO 9001:2015 quality system, certified by SGS.

Galvanising, our largest tank-lining customer
Hot-dip galvanising plants run a sequence of highly corrosive process baths, degrease, rinse, hydrochloric acid pickle, rinse, flux, and the molten zinc bath itself. The pickling and chemical-prep tanks attack uncoated steel within months, and rubber or epoxy liners typically last 2 to 5 years before they need replacement. HDPE liners deliver 10+ years of service in pickling duty, with PP specified where temperatures or chemistry favour it.
- Hydrochloric acid pickling tanks, HDPE liner is the industry standard. We fabricate to your existing concrete or steel tank dimensions, including drain points, support frames and overflow weirs.
- Degreasing tanks (alkaline / acid), HDPE or PP depending on chemistry and temperature. PP for hot caustic degreasers.
- Rinse and quench tanks, HDPE; large capacity, often the longest tanks in the line.
- Flux tanks (zinc ammonium chloride), HDPE or PP. Operating temperature dictates choice.
- Spent acid storage and waste-treatment vessels, HDPE; sized to plant production volume and waste-handling cycle.
- Custom dipping tank fabrication, new tanks, not just liners. Single-piece HDPE or modular field-welded for very large dimensions (the tank shown above is one such job).
If you run a galvanising line and you’re budgeting for the next reline, send your tank dimensions and current chemistry. We’ll quote a like-for-like HDPE or PP replacement, or a fully custom dipping tank if the existing vessel is at end of life.
Other tank-lining duties we cover
- Concrete tank corrosion or leakage, aggressive chemicals (acids, hypochlorite) attack concrete; HDPE liner restores chemical resistance and seals the vessel.
- Steel tank corrosion, coatings fail; HDPE or PP liner replaces them with a 10+ year solution.
- Repurposing existing tanks, an old water tank lined with HDPE or PVC can store dilute acids, alum, hypochlorite or similar.
- Food-grade conversions, FSANZ-compliant PP liner over a non-food-grade vessel.
- Bunds and secondary containment, HDPE liner in a concrete bund for chemical-storage compliance per AS 1940 / EPA.
- Pit and sump linings, for underground concrete sumps that would otherwise leach contents.
Liner materials
| DVS 2205 | German thermoplastic tank design standard, static design calculations, wall thickness, chemical resistance, and structural verification for plastic tanks and apparatus |
| HDPE | Industry-standard for galvanising pickling tanks, water, alum, hypochlorite, ferric, mining slurry, waste-water duties. UV-stabilised grades for outdoor exposure. |
| Polypropylene (PP) | Higher temperature service to ~95 °C. Specified for hot caustic degreasers, hot flux tanks, ammonia, food-grade conversions. |
| PVDF | Aggressive concentrated acids, hot bleach, ultrapure water. Premium cost; specified by chemical and temperature. |
Standards we build to
| DVS 2207 | German plastic welding standard for liner seam welding, significantly more stringent than minimum AS/NZS qualification. |
| AS/NZS 4020 | Products in contact with drinking water, used on potable applications. |
| FSANZ Standard 1.4.3 | Articles and materials in contact with food, used on food-grade tank liner conversions. |
| ISO 9001:2015 | Quality management. Certified by SGS since 2008. |
How a tank liner install works
- Specifications & measurement, you supply drawings, dimensions and condition photos of the existing vessel. We assess subgrade, surface condition and nozzle/fitting interfaces from supplied information. On-site surveys by arrangement on confirmed projects.
- Engineering design, CAD layout, panel schedule, material spec, anchor and seam plan.
- Material procurement, certified HDPE / PP / PVDF stock, traceable to mill certificates.
- Shop pre-fabrication, panels and corner welds done in our workshop where possible.
- On-site seam welding, DVS 2207-qualified operators; vacuum-box, air-channel or spark testing on installed seams as required.
- Sign-off, weld records, test certificates, ITPs and as-built drawings handed over.
Sectors we serve
We fabricate for mining, water treatment, food processing, energy and galvanising and powder coating. Each industry page sets out the scope we deliver, the standards that apply and named project examples. For the full list, see Industries we serve.

Frequently asked questions
HDPE liners deliver 10 plus years in hydrochloric acid pickling duty, against the 2 to 5 years typical of rubber or epoxy liners.
Galvanising process baths, concrete and steel chemical storage tanks, process vessels, bunds, pits and underground sumps.
HDPE is the industry standard for hydrochloric acid pickling; polypropylene is specified for hot caustic degreasers and where temperature favours it; flux tanks take HDPE or PP depending on operating temperature.
Yes. An old water tank lined with HDPE or PVC can store dilute acids, alum or hypochlorite, and a FSANZ compliant PP liner converts a non food grade vessel for food duty.
